From Combat to Cardio: How Ed Ballanco is Reshaping Montana's Fitness Landscape

Tim sits down with Ed Ballanco, owner of Better Body Fitness, to talk about his journey from Army brigade commander to the helm of one of Montana's top fitness equipment businesses. Headquartered in Helena with locations in Bozeman, Billings, Missoula, and a pop-up in Whitefish, Better Body Fitness helps residential and commercial customers across Montana and beyond build smarter, stronger spaces to stay active.

Helping Montanans Build Smarter Fitness Spaces

Better Body Fitness does more than sell treadmills. With a full-service approach, Ed and his team guide clients through gym design, installation, maintenance, and equipment servicing. Whether it’s a single home treadmill or a $70,000 commercial install, they tailor every solution to real needs and budgets.

“We want people to get what they'll actually use—and love using—for years.”

Their services extend to homes, PT clinics, hotels, personal training studios, and even multi-family housing complexes. And with certified technicians covering Montana, Wyoming, and parts of the Dakotas, Better Body Fitness goes wherever the work is needed.

A Veteran's Vision, A Montana Mission

After 25+ years in the Army, Ed moved to Bozeman determined to find a business with purpose. That mission became Better Body Fitness. Today, he and his team help customers get matched with the right equipment, provide 2D/3D gym layouts, and refurbish select used machines with local support and catastrophic warranties.

“We don’t just sell gear. We build long-term relationships based on trust, expertise, and follow-through.”

Locations and Personalized Support

Better Body Fitness has storefronts in Four Corners (Bozeman), Helena, Missoula, Billings, and a pop-up in Whitefish. The team encourages customers to visit, try equipment, and get expert advice. Their website is intentionally lean—because they believe fitness starts with a conversation.

“It’s not about what looks best online. It’s about what’s going to help you move, consistently, for the next 10 to 25 years.”
