Some conversations feel uncomfortable before they even begin.
Relationships. Intimacy. Conflict. Vulnerability. The things that matter most are often the things we avoid talking about.
In Episode 136 of Mountain Mule Media, I sat down with Hannah Wilson, founder of Oh Hi Collective, for a conversation that goes far beyond sex therapy. We explore connection, communication, modern relationships, authenticity, and why curiosity may be one of the most important skills we can develop.
Listen on:
Relationships Aren’t Getting Simpler
For generations, there was an unspoken roadmap for relationships.
Meet someone. Get married. Buy a house. Raise a family.
Today, that path looks different for almost everyone.
People are navigating careers, finances, changing gender roles, social media, dating apps, and expectations that previous generations never had to consider. Hannah explains that success in a relationship isn’t about avoiding differences. It’s about learning how to work through them together.
Curiosity Is Better Than Assumptions
One of my favorite parts of this conversation centered around curiosity.
Whether you’re meeting someone for the first time, talking with your spouse, or sitting across from a stranger, Hannah believes our first instinct shouldn’t be to judge or defend ourselves.
It should be to ask better questions.
Real connection doesn’t happen because we already know someone. It happens because we’re willing to stay curious long enough to understand them.
That idea shows up throughout the episode. From dating and marriage to friendships and everyday interactions, curiosity creates space for understanding instead of conflict.
Authenticity Builds Trust
Another theme that kept resurfacing was authenticity.
Whether you’re running a business, seeing clients, recording a podcast, or simply meeting someone for coffee, people can tell when you’re trying to be someone you’re not.
Hannah talks about building her practice around showing up as herself, not as the version she thought a therapist was supposed to be. That honesty gives people permission to lower their guard and have conversations they may have avoided for years.
Sometimes the fastest way to make someone else comfortable is to stop trying so hard to appear perfect.
Shame Keeps Us Quiet
As a sex therapist, Hannah spends much of her career helping people talk about subjects they’ve often avoided for decades.
But this conversation isn’t really about sex.
It’s about shame.
When people feel safe enough to ask questions without fear of judgment, they begin to understand themselves and their relationships in a completely different way.
Whether the topic is intimacy, mental health, fertility, or communication, removing shame creates room for healing, learning, and genuine connection.
Building Something Bigger Than Yourself
Hannah also shares the story behind Oh Hi Collective and how it has grown into much more than a private practice.
Her vision was never simply to see clients one-on-one. It was to build a team that could make conversations around mental health, intimacy, and relationships more approachable and accessible for everyone.
Today, Oh Hi Collective brings together therapists, educators, and community events that encourage people to ask questions, challenge shame, and build healthier relationships.
It’s a reminder that the strongest organizations aren’t built around one person. They’re built around creating space for other people to grow.
