In this episode of Mountain Mule Media, Tim sits down with Sarah Sloan, owner of The Refillery Supply Co., to talk about how she’s helping Bozeman reduce plastic waste and live more sustainably. From hand soap to laundry detergent, The Refillery makes it easy to refill, reuse, and rethink how we shop. Sarah shares how the idea started during COVID and how she’s built a welcoming space focused on sustainability without guilt.
A Business Born from a Simple Idea
The Refillery Supply Co. began as a small refill booth at the Bozeman Farmers Market. During the pandemic, Sarah started refilling products from her home and delivering them across town. What began as a side project quickly grew into a business rooted in community and purpose. Today, her shop sits on the northeast side of Bozeman in the historic Misco Mill building, sharing space with Brickbound Leather Goods and offering locals a place to refill everything from shampoo to dish soap.
Sustainability Made Simple
Sarah’s approach to sustainability is practical and approachable. She avoids the idea of “zero waste” perfection and instead encourages small, achievable steps. Customers can bring their own containers, choose from free donated jars, or buy new reusable ones. Her products are carefully sourced from ethical makers, many of them women-owned small businesses. From goat milk lotion made in Belgrade to deodorants and soaps made in solar-powered facilities, every item reflects thoughtful sourcing and care.
Why Supporting Local Matters
A big part of The Refillery’s mission is supporting small businesses. Sarah partners with makers across Montana and the U.S. who share her values, creating an ecosystem of ethical, sustainable trade. Each product represents a story, a family, and a community that benefits when customers choose local over corporate.
She reminds us that even small changes—refilling one bottle, choosing one non-toxic product, or supporting one small business—can have a lasting impact when done together.
A Welcoming Space for Change
The Refillery isn’t about guilt or pressure—it’s about connection. Sarah has built a place where people can ask questions, learn, and take steps toward reducing waste at their own pace. Whether you’re refilling your first container or replacing all your household products, The Refillery Supply Co. offers the support, knowledge, and community to make it easy.
