A Restored Piece of Montana History

Originally built in 1889 by Thomas Lay, the barn stood untouched for over 130 years. After purchasing the property 18 years ago, Patty fully restored the structure, preserving its heritage while turning it into an event venue and art gallery with modern comforts like a full bar and real bathrooms.

“Every detail matters—we kept the soul of the place while making it functional and beautiful.”

Weddings, Parties, and Local Thursdays

The 1889 Barn is available for private events year-round, from weddings and birthdays to baby showers and rehearsal dinners. Every Thursday night, the bar opens to the public at 5 p.m., offering locals and visitors a chance to experience the space in a relaxed, come-as-you-are setting.

“We’ve had everything from graduation brunches to 80th birthday parties—and every time, it feels special.”

Stay at the Yellow Farmhouse

Also on the property is the Yellow Farmhouse, a beautifully remodeled Airbnb that sleeps six. With big windows, mountain views, and a warm, curated interior, it’s the perfect basecamp for skiing both Big Sky and Bridger or exploring Bozeman.

“It’s right in the middle. Close to everything, but still peaceful and private.”
